WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's tennis team concludes its fall slate this weekend with the Big Ten Singles Tournament hosted by Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich.
Engelbrecht qualified for the singles main draw at last weekend's USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships. The Purdue junior defeated Andres Monroy (Ball State) 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 and Niklas Schroeder (Eastern Kentucky) 7-6 (3), 7-5 to qualify before falling to Bryant Salcedo of Vanderbilt 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. The Cape Town, South Africa, native holds a 6-4 fall singles tally.
Engelbrecht faces Indiana's Josh MacTaggart in the first round of Flight A on Saturday, while sophomore Heuer faces Wyatt Lippert from Ohio State. Engelbrecht and junior Manasse take on Connor Gilmore and Joey White of Iowa on Friday in Flight B.
"This [tournament] is a great opportunity for our guys to finish the fall season strong and compete against some good in-conference competition," said assistant coach Brandon Lenfert.
The tournament features one 64-player singles draw along with an additional 8-players singles draw and two 16-team doubles draws. Consolation draws will be played. Friday's action kicks off with doubles play.
