TULSA, Okla. – The Purdue men’s tennis team hits the road for the first time this fall as two returners and a freshman travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the 2017 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships.
Maksymilian Raupuk is scheduled to make his college debut Saturday in the prequalifying draw of singles against Andrea Caligiana of Wichita State. The draw was released late Friday and includes 186 players vying for 16 spots in the qualifying draw.
“I am very excited for this opportunity,” Raupuk said. “I’ve spent the last five weeks practicing with my new teammates at Purdue, and I am eager to see how much I have improved in that time.
“With it being my first collegiate match, I am also anxious to see how much they differ from the ITF matches that I have competed in. Regardless, it will be an honor representing my school in one of the nation’s most elite tournaments.”
The two returners will also compete side by side in doubles, when the qualifying draw opens Monday as well. A year ago, Madarasz won six-straight to advance to the semifinals of the main draw with former Boilermaker Ricky Medinilla. The pair rose to No. 4 in the nation after their impressive performance – a program best for Purdue.
“I am excited to return to Tulsa and start my senior season there,” Madarasz said. “I have great memories from this tournament, playing with Ricky last season, and I think Stephan and I are also going to do well. He is a very talented player.”
The duo enters their first tournament ranked No. 33 in the nation.
