WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The ninth-seeded Purdue men's tennis team opens the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday morning with a match against the No. 8 seed Wisconsin. The Boilermakers and Badgers begin play at 9 a.m. ET.
Purdue (18-11, 3-8 B1G) wrapped up the regular season on Tuesday with a pair of non-conferences wins against Vincennes. The team honored seniors Krisztian Krocsko and Pawel Poziomski who each played his final match at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermakers dropped their final four matches of the Big Ten season, though they were in position to win each of them. On Sunday against Illinois, the team fell 5-2, but dropped a pair of three set matches at No. 3 and No. 4. Against Northwester last Friday, Purdue fell by the same score, by lost three matches that went three sets. The team also dropped a 4-3 match at Wisconsin where it had a match point to clinch the team victory, but ultimately came up on the losing end, 4-3.
The Boilermakers have picked up three convincing conference wins. They beat Penn State and Iowa, each by a 6-1 score, and Nebraska with a perfect 7-0 tally.
Wisconsin finished 12-11 and 4-7 in the conference. The teams met earlier this season in Madison, Wis., with Wisconsin claiming a 4-3 victory despite a 3-0 Purdue lead. A full recap and box score of that match can be found here. The Badgers had conference wins against Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa, and Nebraska.
The winner of the Purdue vs. Wisconsin match will advance to the quarter finals to face Ohio State, the top seed in the tournament. That match is on Friday at 9 a.m.
Live scoring will be available during the tournament. Updates, pictures, and videos will also be posted on the Purdue men's tennis official Twitter feed, @PurdueMT.
