Purdue To Host Penn State On Sunday

March 23, 2012

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 70 Purdue men’s tennis team returns to Big Ten action on Sunday as it hosts the Penn State Nittany Lions at noon at the Schwartz Tennis Center.

Purdue (6-7, 0-1 Big Ten) is coming off of a tough loss at the hands of the No. 21 Indiana Hoosiers on Wednesday. The match seemed to be much closer than the score would indicate, though. With Purdue down 3-0, the Boilermakers started to build momentum on the remaining three courts. Aaron Dujovne was clinched his match at No. 5 to get the team on the board. Szymon Tatarczyk was back and forth at No. 3 while Diego Acosta had just forced a third set at No. 4. Evan Hawkins was battling back from down a set and 5-2 in the second to tie the set at five. However, Purdue couldn’t pull out any of those matches and lost, 6-1.

Penn State (10-4, 0-1) will play at Indiana before making the trip to West Lafayette. The Nittany Lions have won seven of their last nine matches, but have struggled a little bit on the road. The team is just 2-3 in road contests. Penn State’s Big Ten Conference loss came at the hands of Ohio State, 7-0. The Nittany Lions have won five matches on the season in shut out fashion. The team is coming off a 5-2 win at Cornell.

This is the 28th meeting between the two schools on the courts. Penn State holds a slim lead, 14-13, though Purdue won last year, 6-1.

Live scoring will be available for the match on Sunday at PurdueSports.com. The match is scheduled to be played outdoors, depending on weather, meaning that there will not be a live video stream. A full recap and box score will be posted following the match.
