WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 69 Purdue men’s tennis team will host a doubleheader on Saturday to take on the Wright State Raiders at 11 a.m. ET and Valparaiso at 5 p.m. on the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
Purdue (7-2) is back home after going 2-2 on its four game road trip, all against ranked teams. The Boilers are looking for their first win in February after dropping matches to No. 51 Denver and No. 18 Baylor to start the month. Aaron Dujovne continued his early season success by moving to 5-1 on the year in singles play. Dujovne notched Purdue’s only point against the No. 18 Baylor Bears when he defeated Roberto Maytin 1-6, 6-4, (12-10). Purdue has won every match when it wins the doubles point. Purdue is led by the doubles team of Mark Kovacs and Pawel Poziomski, which is 5-2 on the year in the No. 2 spot.
Wright State (5-3) is playing its third B1G team this spring. The Raiders fell to No. 52 Michigan State and No. 23 Indiana earlier this season. Wright State will play the Louisville Cardinals in Louisville, Ky. on Friday before traveling to West Lafayette to play the Boilermakers. This will be the first matchup in the series between these two schools. The Raiders are led by junior Hayden Joblin, who is 5-2 this year in singles play.
Valparaiso (4-2) is also in action Friday when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on the Western Michigan Broncos. The Crusaders are a team full of youth. Their eight-man roster comprises six freshmen, one junior, and a senior. Junior Eric Honert is 8-4 in singles on the year. Freshman Brian Hickey is on a four-match winning streak in singles for the Crusaders.
