WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men’s and women’s tennis teams will host a Meet the Team even on Friday night at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The Boilermaker teams will greet fans, distribute posters, sign autographs, and host a free clinic from 6-7:30 p.m. Students in high school may attend the event, but, due to NCAA rules, may not participate in the clinic.

The women’s team enters the 2013 season off a record season. The team earned its highest rankings in program history, the school’s first Big Ten Tournament Championship, the first NCAA Tournament bid since 2006, and numerous individual records. The team returns five members from last year’s team and all were regular contributors. The women also welcome three newcomers to the program. Krisztina Kapitany, Claudia Escribens, and Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum arrived on campus in the August. Bernard-Feigenbaum had an incredible fall as she put together a 10-1 singles record as well as a 13-2 doubles mark. Escribens was 17-9 overall as she went 9-5 in singles and 8-4 in doubles. Kapitany had an 11-16 record, 6-7 in singles and 5-9 in doubles, though she played in the top tournaments including the Duke Fab Four.

The women’s team enters the 2013 season ranked No. 27 in the country in the first ITA Women’s College Tennis Rankings of the year. Lynda Xepoleas and Mara Schmidt begin the season ranked as singles players. Xepoelas is No. 80 in the country while Schmidt comes in at No. 108.

On the men’s side, the team is opening its 100th year of varsity status at Purdue University. The team welcomes three freshmen to the program including two mid-year student-athletes. Arthur Dobradin joined the team in the fall while Mateus Brisot-Silva and Victor Hoyos are mid-year enrollees. Diego Acosta leads the Boilermakers in the rankings as the sophomore checks in at No. 118. The Boilermakers return a plethora of depth as all seven regular competitors from 2012 return.

Krisztian Krocsko and Pawel Poziomski lead the team as a pair of seniors in the centennial season. Mark Kovacs, Aaron Dujovne, and Szymon Tatarczyk add an abundance of experience and talent as each of the three juniors has played at either No. 1 or No. 2 singles. Acosta and Evan Hawkins make up the sophomore contingency and both were regular singles players in 2012.

The two Boilermaker teams will welcome fans of all ages at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. ET. Along with autographs, pictures, and a clinic, there will also be an open house. The event comes on the eve of the men’s season opening day when they will face Toledo at 9 a.m., Butler at 2 p.m., and IUPUI at 7 p.m.
