CHAMPAIGN, Ill.-- Revenge did not come for the Purdue men's tennis team today, as the Boilermakers fell 4-0 to 28th-ranked Northwestern in the semifinals of the Big Ten Championship tournament at Champaign, Ill. Purdue, seeded third, had advanced to meet the Wildcats by defeating Minnesota 4-2 in the quarterfinals. That victory set up an opportunity for the Boilers to erase the memory of a 4-3 loss to Northwestern on Feb. 28. But it was not meant to be, as the second-seeded Wildcats took control early and never faltered. Northwestern got on board first by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead over the Boilers. The Wildcats built on that advantage in singles, winning three matches and sealing the victory before Purdue could answer.

Purdue's lone win on the day was an 8-5 doubles victory by juniors Cris James and Derek Myers over the Wildcats' Witt and Bohaboy pair at No. 1.

The season is not over yet for the Boilermakers. Purdue, now 13-9, will play the loser of the other semifinal between No. 1 Illinois and No. 4 Michigan to determine third place. The Boilers will square off against the Fighting Illini or Wolverines at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
