Men's Tennis Falls to UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Purdue men's tennis team lost its third and final match of its spring trip by a 7-2 score to UC-Santa Barbara. The loss drops the Boilermakers to 5-7 (1-1 Big Ten).

Two Boilermakers were successful in singles. Junior Derek Myers won his No. 3 match 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Dan Swan was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at the No. 6 spot.

Junior Cris James took his match to three sets at the No. 1 position, but fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Classmate Jamie Gordon fell 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Rookie Jason Marshall dropped his No. 4 match 6-4, 6-3, while sophomore Tushaar Gautam fell 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 5 position.

James and Myers, the 27th-ranked doubles team in the nation, lost 8-5. Gordon and Marshall fell 8-3 at the No. 2 spot, and swan and G.T. Cozad lost 8-4 at No. 3.

Purdue looks to regroup when it hosts Ball State on March 21.
