Gordon Advances in Tennis Big 10 Indoor Championships

Junior Jamie Gordon advances to the third round

East Lansing, Mich- The Purdue men's tennis team competed in the Big Ten Indoor Singles Championships in East Lansing, Mich., today, where junior Jamie Gordon advanced to the third round.

Gordon is the seventh seed in the tournament and has lived up to his rank thus far. After an easy, 7-5, 6-1 straight-set victory over Mark Dorfman of Penn State, Gordon rolled past Wisconsin's Jeff Malik by the same score. Gordon is Purdue's top player and is currently ranked 80th in the Rolex Collegiate Rankings. He will continue play Sunday at 9:30 a.m. against Minnesota's Martin Michalowski.

Junior Derek Myers and freshman Dan Swan each won their first-round matches. Myers battled with Iowa's J. R. Chidley and finished on top 6-3, 7-6, but fell in the second round to Mark Silva of Northwestern 6-3, 6-1. Swan opened the day by defeating Derek DeFalco of Ohio State 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, before losing to Hawkeye Brad McFarlane in an injury default.

Following this season-opening tournament, the 48th-ranked Boilers will begin dual match action Jan. 31 against ninth-ranked Florida in Gainesville.
