James and Myers to Face UNLV Duo at NCAA Championships

The Purdue tennis doubles team of Cris James and Derek Myers open in the NCAA Men's Doubles Championships Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles, Calif. The pair will face Tim Blenkiron and Luke Smith of UNLV in the first round. The winner of that matchup will play the winner of the match between third-seeded Tim Crichton and Tom Hamilton of Arkansas and Brian Patterson and Jakub Pietrowski of Notre Dame.

James and Myers are ranked 26th in the country in doubles with a 33-16 slate on the season. The tandum lost to Smith and Asaf Tishler earlier in the year at the T. Rowe Price National Clay Courts in Baltimore 6-4, 6-2 in the consolation finals.

Last season at the NCAA Championships, the tandem defeated Ornello Arlati and Nick Williams of Washington 7-5, 7-6 (8) in the first round, before falling to the eventual runners-up in Ashley Fisher and Jason Weir-Smith of Texas Christian, 6-4, 6-3.
