Men's Tennis Team to Host Ball State

Match will take place March 21.

Two Indiana schools collide on the court when the Purdue men's tennis team hosts Ball State on March 21 at 2 p.m. at the Lafayette Sports Center.

The Boilermakers are coming off a spring break trip which saw them drop three straight matches to UC-Irvine, No. 7 Pepperdine and UC-Santa Barbara. The losses brought Purdue's record to 5-7 (1-1 Big Ten) entering the match with the Cardinals.

Ball State is 2-10 (0-0 MAC) after struggling through an eight-match losing skid from Jan. 31-March 13. The Cardinals' two wins have come against Cincinnati in the season opener and Wichita State. The Boilermakers look to stop the streak at three when they take the court against the Cardinals. In order to do so, they will need strong doubles performances and quality singles play from the top portion of their lineup. The junior trio of Jamie Gordon, Cris James and Derek Myers will provide experience and leadership in the top three positions, while freshmen Jason Marshall and Dan Swan bring energy to the lower half of the lineup.

Look for the 27th-ranked doubles team of James and Myers to spark the Boilers' momentum, while Gordon and Marshall could provide a deciding victory to claim the all-important doubles point.
