PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Danny Conway's two individual victories in the dual meet win versus Florida Atlantic to close out Purdue men's swimming's winter training trip has earned the versatile newcomer Big Ten Swimmer and Freshman of the Week honors.

Conway won the 200 IM (1:53.3) and 500 freestyle (4:37.4) Friday at Pine Crest in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Boilermakers were a 113-89 winner versus Florida Atlantic. Conway and the rest of the Purdue swimmers were in Fort Lauderdale from Dec. 15-23 for the programs' biennial winter training trip.

Conway increased his individual victory total for the season to four, good for a fourth-place tie on the team with diver and fellow freshman Layne Rogers. Conway joins Rogers (twice) as Boilers to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Week this season. Jamie Bissett and Guillermo Blanco were honored last season. Noah Pashley (Feb. 15, 2011) was the Purdue men's last Big Ten Swimmer of the Week winner.

Danny Tucker (100 free, 46.1), Manuel Gutierrez (200 free, 1:42.00), Jan Petric (1000 free, 9:28.9), Brian Kiel (100 back, 51.7) and Jacob McGough (100 fly, 51.00) as well as Purdue's 400 free and 200 medley relay teams were also winners against FAU. Complete results were not made immediately available.

The Boilermakers return to action the weekend of Jan. 11-12 when they travel to the state of Michigan for back-to-back dual meets against Michigan State (Friday evening in East Lansing) and Michigan (Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor). The Wolverines were the top-ranked team in the latest CSCAA Top 25 poll.
