GREENSBORO, N.C. - Joe Cifelli's silver in synchronized 3-meter highlighted a trio of top-10 finishes for Purdue at the USA Diving Winter National Championships.
Cifelli teamed with the University of Miami's Briadam Herrera for the runner-up finish in Monday's synchronized springboard event. The duo finished second in both the prelim and final, posting list scores of 371.64 (prelim) and 382.26 (final) for a combined total of 753.9.
Individually on 3-meter, Cifelli finished eighth among a field of 23 divers. He improved on his list score in each of the three competitions, culminating with a personal season-best mark of 379.55 in the final. He also posted list scores of 364.75 in the semifinal and 333.6 in the prelim.
Cifelli's silver in the synchronized event was his third top-four finish in 3-meter event at a 2017 USA Diving national meet. Individually, he was third at Summer Nationals in August and fourth at the World Championships Trials in May.
National Letter of Intent signee Ben Bramley was also a finalist in both of his events at Winter Nationals. He improved on his list score in both the semi and final of the 3-meter and 10-meter competitions. The Wellesley, Massachusetts, native placed fifth on 10-meter, highlighted by a list score of 377.15 in the final. He took 13th on 3-meter, finishing the competition with a list score of 320.05 in the final.
Cifelli and Bramley are among the 12 set to serve as USA Diving athlete representatives for 2018. Cifelli begins his second year and Bramley's election was announced at Winter Nationals.
Cifelli and the Purdue divers are set to fly to Honolulu to join their swimming counterparts on Dec. 26. The men have the option of competing in the Jan. 2 dual meet vs. Hawaii.
