WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Four Boilermaker swimmers have earned national rankings according to the latest College Quick 50 sheet published by Taper & Shave. Giordan Pogioli claims the team's highest ranking with the eighth spot in the 200 breaststroke (1:58.50).

The junior All-American from Peoria, Ill., also is ranked 16th in the 100 breast at 55.30.

Freshman Romain Maire and senior Louis Paul are ranked together in the 200 individual medley and the 100 back, with Maire also holding the 22nd spot in the 200 back (1:46.80). Junior Blake Scholz slipped into the top 50 of the 200 fly with his time of 1:49.99.

Purdue's women's 200-yard freestyle team is ranked third in the nation. The squad of Tracy Duchac, Christine Leupold, Susan Hentschel and Kimbre Vogel lost ground in recent weeks to Arizona (1:30.55) and Georgia (1:31.26) after being ranked first last month.

Purdue's top season time of 1:31.85 gave them first place at the North Carolina-based Nike Cup in November.

The team's top individual rankings belong to Leupold and Duchac, who are tied for 18th place with Arizona's Marshi Smith in the 50 free. Both Boilermakers posted their top time of 23.11 at the Nike Cup. Vogel (23.42) and Hentschel's marks (23.42) from the Nike Cup also are ranked among the top 50.

Hentschel's varsity record mark of 49.99 in the 100 free is currently ranked 19th, and Leupold's 50.05 ranks her 22nd. Leupold (1:48.68) and Hentschel (1:48.83) are also among the top 30 in the 200 free.

Carlene Takaki is ranked in both butterfly races with top marks of 55.46 and 2:00.51, and freshman Jennifer Lavers is settled among the top 35 in both backstroke events with times of 1:03.00 and 2:17.46.

In addition to their top-flight 200 free relay, the Boilermakers also claim a speedy 400 free relay team that is ranked 10th at 3:22.75. The team's 800 free relay (7:25.86) is ranked just outside the top 16 as is its 400 medley relay (3:46.60).

The Boilermakers head to Florida for Winter Training on Dec. 27 and will compete in two meets. The women enter the Florida International Invitational on Jan. 2, while the men go Jan. 8 to the Florida Atlantic Invitational. Purdue diving competes at the Georgia Invitational Jan. 3 to 5.
