Dive-by-Dive Scoring

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Highlighted by a victory from MacKenzie Tweardy in the women's platform competition Sunday, five Purdue divers scored team points with top eight finishes on the final two days of the Ohio State Invitational.

Tweardy finished first among the 14 divers in the women's platform competition with a Purdue season-best score of 281.70. She qualified for the NCAA Zone C Championships, hosted by the Boilermakers in March, in the event. The sophomore has now punched her ticket to Zones from all three boards this season. Tweardy opened and capped her five-dive platform list Sunday with her highest scores of the day, earning 60-plus points on both dives.

Third-place finishes from Nate Cox and Maddie Miskulin on the platforms Sunday and Layne Rogers from the 3-meter springboard Saturday also added to the Purdue team scores. The women earned 99 points on the weekend to finish first among the six teams in the diving only team scores. The men were fourth of five with 65 points.

Michelle Cabassol added a seventh-place finish in the 1-meter springboard Saturday to her 3-meter victory from Friday evening. Casey Matthews was also among the top eight performers of the 1-meter preliminaries Saturday afternoon to advance, but she opted not to compete in the evening finals. It was her first college competition since the 2010 NCAA Championships, returning to action this weekend after overcoming multiple injuries.

Cox's score of 328.35 from the platforms Sunday was a personal season high, qualifying the sophomore for the NCAA Zone C Championships. All four Boilers who have competed in a platform competition this season have now qualified for Zones.

Rogers' score of 384.45 in the 3-meter finals Saturday evening was a new Purdue season-best mark. He improved on his preliminary-round performance by 46 points. The freshman finished among the top four of both springboard events this weekend.

Jamie Bissett did not compete in the 3-meter Saturday or platform Sunday due to illness. Sean Mokhtari did not dive from the platforms Sunday due to a thumb injury.
