WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - For a third consecutive week, a Boilermaker has been honored by the Big Ten Conference as its Diver of the Week. Tuesday, it was junior Josh Karshen's turn to receive this accolade, joining teammates Steven LoBue and Carrie McCambridge.
Karshen and his diving colleagues played a large role in Purdue's 152-148 upset victory over No. 14 Northwestern, sweeping the top three spots off both springboards. Overall, the divers collected 32 of the team's 152 points.
Karshen placed third off the 1-meter springboard with a season-best and NCAA regional zone qualifying score of 300.23. His tally was just 4.6 points short of his career best.
Off the 3-meter springboard, Karshen again recorded an NCAA regional zone qualifying score of 311.63, which doubled as a personal best. Karshen's previous best of 310.12 was posted last season.
The 20th-ranked Boilermakers continue their tough road swing this weekend, traveling to Minneapolis for the Minnesota Invitational. Purdue will battle Big Ten rivals Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, in addition to North Dakota, St. Olaf, Gustavus Adolphus, St. Cloud State, Carleton and South Dakota State.
