• This year's edition of the Purdue Invitational will feature six ranked teams and representatives from seven different conferences -- the Big Ten, Atlantic Coast, Southeastern, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Conference USA and Patriot League. Men's swimming & diving teams from Missouri Valley schools compete in the Mid-American.
• Both Florida teams competed at the 2005 Purdue Invitational, with the UF men taking the team title. The Florida women returned to West Lafayette for the Purdue Invite two years later.
• But it's Missouri State and Southern Illinois which have been the true regulars at the Purdue Invitational. MSU has participated every year the meet has been held dating back to 2005. SIU missed only the 2009 edition. However, SIU was also part of the inaugural 2003 Purdue Invite when it was a men's only meet.

Marat Amaltdinov (1:54.61) and Emily Fogle (2:07.30) both established new pool records in the 200 breaststroke on the final day of the 2015 Purdue Invite. Those strong November showings foreshadowed great things to come later that season. Amaltdinov went on to win the first of his two conference titles in the 200 breast at the Big Ten Championships, eclipsing his own pool record again while also establishing a program benchmark he continues to hold. Fogle closed out her career that spring as an All-American, posting the first top-eight finish at NCAAs by a Purdue female swimmer since 2010. She was later honored as the Purdue Female Athlete of the year.
Kaersten Meitz (4:40.29) eclipsed her own program record in the prelims of the 500 freestyle at the 2015 Purdue Invite. By the end of her sophomore season, she had become the first Boilermaker to break 4:40 in the event and her program record now stands at 4:37.45.

• Florida's Caeleb Dressel and Indiana's Lilly King both won gold medals at the 2016 Olympic Games. They carried that success over to 2017.
• Dressel swept the 50 and 100 free and also won the 100 butterfly at the 2017 NCAA Championships. But it was his eight gold medals at the FINA World Championships this summer, including three individual golds, that elevated him to true international stardom as FINA's Male Swimmer of the Meet award winner at Worlds. His time of 18.20 in the 50 free from the 2016 NCAA Championships remains a landmark short-course record.
• King set Burke Aquatic Center pool records in both breaststroke events at the 2017 Big Ten Championships. She went on to sweep the 100 and 200 breast at the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row, and also won multiple golds at the World Championships in Budapest. She established new world records in both the 50- and 100-meter breast.
