WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Multiple individual victories from Lyam Dias, Brian KielDanny Tucker on the men's side and Lauren Roth among the women led the Purdue swimming and diving teams to a double dual meet sweep of Notre Dame Friday evening at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
The Purdue men won 13 of the 16 events on their way to a 168-110 victory. The Purdue women captured 10 of the 16 events to emerge victorious 168-131.
The men dominated three of the five individual freestyle events, featuring at least the top three finishers in the 50, 100 and 500. The women also had the top three finishers in the 50 and 500 free. Tucker won the 50 and 100 and also swam on both the victorious 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.
Brian Kiel swept the backstroke events. Dias captured the 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley in his best meet so far of his freshman season. Dias teamed with 100 breast winner Albert Miller to allow the Boilers to sweep that stroke.
Roth won the 1000 free and 200 free in back-to-back events. She later finished second to freshman Megan Gallagher in the 500 free and anchored Purdue's victorious 400 free relay team. Gallagher won the 500 free from lane one. Fellow freshmen Rhiannon Sheets (100 fly) and Amy Katz (100 back) also posted an individual victory. Sheets was second in the 200 fly as well.
Emily Fogle and Carly Mercer also won an event and finished second in another. Fogle was the Boilers' top performer in the breaststroke events, winning the 100 and taking second in the 200. Mercer won the 100 free after finishing second in the 50 free. Lauren Nichols, Mercer and Lauren Gustafson touched in 1-2-3 fashion in the 50. Gustafson swam on both victorious relays.
Jimmy Page was Purdue's top performing diver of the night. The junior won the 3-meter and finished second in 1-meter.
The Boilermakers return to action Saturday when they host Northwestern at 2 p.m.
