WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Twelve members of Purdue swimming and diving have been recognized as Scholar All-Americans by the CSCAA for their dual excellence in the pool and the classroom.

All 12 Boilermakers honored were owners of 3.5 grade-point averages or better during the 2013-14 school year or cumulatively. Nine of the 12 were named First Team Scholar All-Americans for qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Three others were Honorable Mention after posting an NCAA provisional qualifying "B Cut" time in at least one individual event.

The Purdue women were also recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-America Team for the 2014 spring semester after compiling a 3.40 team GPA.

Earlier this year, Matt Friede and Casey Matthews were selected as the male and female winners of the Big Ten Medal of Honor for all of Purdue athletics. Friede was part of the CSCAA Scholar All-America honorees for the third year in a row. Jamie Bissett, Francesca Marr, Jan Karel Petric, Nika Karlina Petric, Rhiannon Sheets, Kylie Vogel and Matthews were all recognized by the CSCAA for the second time during their careers.

Freshmen Josh Brooks and Grace Hernandez were also honored this year. Brooks established a new Purdue freshman record in the 400 IM and Hernandez qualified for the NCAAs with the Boilers' 400 freestyle relay team.

Bissett also earned Honorable Mention All-America acclaim while competing in 3-meter diving at the NCAA Championships this season. He is a two-time Academic All-District winner for his dual excellence as a student-athlete as well.

Last week, nine members of Purdue swimming and diving were named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars for compiling 3.7-plus GPAs during the 2013-14 school year. Lizzy Lyon and Matthews were recognized by both the Big Ten and CSCAA. Lyon was one of six Purdue student-athletes among all sports with a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2013-14 school year.
