WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - As the USA Diving national champions in the event, Purdue's Steele Johnson and Brandon Loschiavo are set to compete together for Team USA in synchronized 10-meter this week at the FINA Diving World Cup in Wuhan, China.
Johnson and Loschiavo are U.S. representatives in 10-meter synchro at the top international meet of the year for the second summer in a row. Their event at the FINA Diving World Cup features synchro teams from 11 countries and begins with the preliminary round at 10 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 7. The final on Friday at 7:30 a.m. ET will be live on the Olympic Channel.
Loschiavo also earned the right to compete individually on 10-meter at the Diving World Cup. He'll be among a field of 26 divers, competing internationally as an individual for the first time in his career. The prelim and semifinal are set for Saturday, June 9 and the final will be live on the Olympic Channel on Sunday at 4:30 a.m. ET.
Johnson and Loschiavo finished sixth in 10-meter synchro at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest. It was their first international competition together. In April, they won bronze in the event at a FINA Diving World Series event in Montreal.
Action at the FINA Diving World Cup began Monday. Live television coverage is available on the Olympic Channel and encore presentations of the events are also being televised by NBCSN.
The 2016 FINA Diving World Cup was held in February of that year, also in Rio de Janeiro like the most recent Olympic Games. At the meet, David Boudia and Johnson finished fourth in synchronized 10-meter to clinch an Olympic berth for Team USA. Individually, Johnson was also fourth on 10-meter at the most recent World Cup. He and David Dinsmore finished 3-4 in the individual event to earn Team USA a second 10-meter berth at the Olympics.
