WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
-- Eight NCAA Championships qualifiers, including six that earned Honorable Mention All-America acclaim, highlighted Purdue men's swimming and diving's 2012-13 campaign.

The Boilermakers' 200 freestyle relay team garnered Honorable Mention All-America recognition for the second year in a row by qualifying for the consolation final at NCAAs. While taking third in the consolation final, the 200 free relay team of Chuck Destro, Matt Friede, Danny Tucker and Benjamin Ziolkowski placed 11th nationally. Friede, Tucker and Ziolkowski were part of the quartet for the second year in a row.

Divers Layne Rogers and Jamie Bissett also scored at the national championship meet. Rogers qualified for NCAAs as a freshman and was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American, finishing as the runner up in the consolation final of 1-meter diving to place 10th nationally. Bissett was fourth and Rogers seventh in the consolation final of platform diving.

By scoring 26 points in the three events, Purdue placed 25th among the 39 scoring teams at the national meet. It marked the eighth time in the last nine years that the Boilers finished among the Top 25 at NCAAs.

Led by Tucker and Bissett, who both accounted for 34 team points, Purdue finished fifth at the Big Ten Championships. Fourteen Boilers scored individually at the conference championship meet. Purdue outscored a pair of Big Ten teams ranked in the CSCAA national rankings.

Lyam Dias and Stephen Seliskar were also among the NCAA Championships qualifiers. Dias competed in three individual swimming events (100 and 200 breast, 200 IM) as well as the 200 medley relay at NCAAs. Seliskar swam the backstroke leg on the 200 medley relay, becoming Purdue's first freshman swimmer to compete at the national championship meet since 2006.

Rogers was the fourth freshman diver under the tutelage of head diving coach Adam Soldati to qualify for NCAAs, joining David Boudia, David Colturi and Danny Cox.

Tucker also competed individually at NCAAs after finishing as the runner up in the 50 and 100 free at Big Tens. He was named Second Team All-Big Ten and broke the program record in the 100 free twice, finishing the finals race in 42.84. His 50 free time of 19.35 at Big Tens was just one hundredth of a second shy of the program record.

Among the divers, Bissett and Nate Cox each scored in all three of their competitions at Big Tens. Brian Kiel scored in three individual swimming races (100 and 200 back, 200 IM).

The 200 free relay posted an NCAA A Cut qualifying time at Big Tens while placing second in the event.

Danny Conway and Tucker were both named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week during the season. Rogers won Big Ten Diver of the Week after the season-opening meet and was a three-time Freshman of the Week. Conway was also named Freshman of the Week when he won Swimmer of the Week.

Alec LaMothe, Jan Karel Petric, Conway, Cox, Destro, Dias, Friede, Kiel and Tucker were the nine members of the program selected to travel to Dallas in mid-January for the prestigious six-team Classic @ SMU.

Purdue had the opportunity to travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the annual winter training program. The Boilermakers spent the week between the conclusion of final exams on campus and Christmas at the Pine Crest school and swim facility, where they also won an outdoor dual meet against Florida Atlantic.

Purdue will have to bid adieu to a number of talented and accomplished seniors, including Destro and Ziolkowski, but is scheduled to return many experienced swimmers and divers for the 2013-14 season. Six of the eight team members that competed at NCAAs will be back, including Bissett, Dias, Rogers and Tucker.
