BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A new school-record time by Danny Tucker in the 100 freestyle and his two runner up finishes, as well as three Boilers scoring in three different events highlighted the 2013 Big Ten Championships for Purdue men's swimming and diving.

The Boilermakers performed well in a number of relays, posting the second-fastest time in program history in the 400 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relays. The 200 free relay team of Tucker, Chuck Destro, Benjamin Ziolkowski and Matt Friede posted an NCAA A Cut of 1:18.05. The foursome, who also made up the 400 free relay team, should earn a berth in the NCAA Championships later this month.

The NCAA made a change to how it selects its swimmers for the national championship meet, going to more of an individual-based matrix. But as long as Purdue qualifies one individual for NCAAs, the Boilers' relays should be in the mix as well.

The NCAA will announce the full list of qualifiers for the men's national championship meet next week (March 12 or 13). The three-day, six-session meet is being hosted by IUPUI in Indianapolis this year.

Purdue took fifth at the Big Ten Championships with 328 team points. Fourteen Boilers scored points individually.

Tucker was named Second Team All-Big Ten after he was the runner up in the 50 and 100 free. He eclipsed the Purdue school record in the 100 free twice on Saturday, dropping his time by a tenth of a second from prelims to finals. He came up only a hundredth of a second shy of Andrew Langenfeld's 2009 Purdue record in the 50 free. With 34 team points, Tucker shared top-scorer honors on the team with diver Jamie Bissett.

Nate Cox, Brian Kiel and Bissett each scored in three different individual events. Bissett and Cox scored in all three diving disciplines. Bissett qualified for the championship finals of the platform and 3-meter diving competitions, placing third from the platforms. The sophomore has moved up on the Purdue all-time scoring lists in all three diving events this year.

Along with scoring points with B finals finishes in the 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 IM, Kiel also accounted for a Purdue season-best time in the 200 free while leading off the 800 free relay Wednesday evening.

Lyam Dias accounted for 22 team points by placing fourth in the A final of the 200 breast (1:55.31) and second in the B final of the 200 IM (1:45.31). Each of his times ranked as the second fastest in program history in those events. Dias also swam the breaststroke leg on both medley relays.

All of the Purdue divers moved up on at least one of the program's all-time Top 10 scoring lists. Freshman Layne Rogers moved into third place in 3-meter diving (422.15) while winning the consolation final Friday.

Other Boilers to join or move up on the Purdue all-time Top 10 lists last week included: Danny Conway (200 fly & 400 IM) Nate Hopkins (1650 free), Alec LaMothe (1650 free), Jacob McGough (400 IM), Sean Mokhtari (platform diving), Jan Karel Petric (400 IM), Stephen Seliskar (100 back), Luke Trimmer (1650 free), Cox (3-meter & platform diving), Destro (50 free & 100 free, 100 fly), Dias (100 breast), Kiel (100 back, 200 free & 200 IM) and Rogers (1-meter diving).

The Boilermakers are unlikely to have any swimmers compete at the Ohio State Last Ditch NCAA qualifier Saturday in Columbus. The divers will continue to train for the NCAA Zone C Championship, which Purdue will host this season March 14-16. National championship meet qualifiers for the divers are determined by that three-day competition.
