ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Eight new program record and four runner-up finishes in championship finals of events highlighted the 2014 Big Ten Championships for Purdue men's swimming and diving.

Seventeen Boilermakers scored team points for Purdue in the four-day meet. Jamie Bissett led the way with 34 points after finishing as the runner-up in both springboard diving events. He also shared the team's top individual scorer honors at the 2013 Big Ten Championships with Danny Tucker.

Lyam Dias established new program records in both breaststroke events (52.49 in 100, 1:53.06 in 200) while posting NCAA A Cut qualifying times to punch his ticket to the national championship meet. Dias was the runner-up in the A final of the 200 breast and finished second on the squad by earning 32 team points. He broke the team record in the prelims and finals of both events.

Nate Cox was the runner-up in the championship final of platform diving. Bissett, Cox and Dias were all named Second Team All-Big Ten for their performances.

The NCAA will announce the full list of swimming qualifiers for the men's national championship meet next week (March 11 or 12). The three-day, six-session meet will be hosted by the University of Texas this year. The divers will need to punch their tickets via the annual Zone C Championships, set for March 13-15 in Columbus.

Purdue has established nine new program records this season - five overall benchmarks and four freshman bests. Filip Bujoczek posted the first new record of the season when he broke the 500 free freshman record at the Minnesota Grand Prix in November. At Big Tens, he eclipsed the overall program benchmark (4:20.37) in the event and also set a new freshman record in the 200 free (1:36.36).

Guillermo Blanco established the first new overall team record of the season when he finished the 400 IM in 3:44.32 at the Classic @ SMU in January. Blanco scored in a Purdue-high three individual events at Big Tens last week, accounting for 24 points to rank fourth on the team.

Freshmen Austin Flager and Bujoczek joined seniors Matt Friede and Tucker on the record-setting 400 freestyle relay team. In the final event of Big Tens, the quartet finished with a time of 2:53.55 to overtake the 2009 team atop the Boilers' 400 free relay leaderboard. Friede and Tucker also helped the 200 free relay team establish a new program record at the 2012 Big Tens. They're likely to race with the Purdue relays at the NCAA Championships for the third year in a row. Adam Johnston joined Flager, Friede and Tucker on the 200 free relay team that posted an NCAA A Cut qualifying time.

Individually, Flager eclipsed Friede's freshman record in the 50 free thanks to a prelim time of 19.86. Flager's 10.5 team points were tops among the Boilers' freshmen. Josh Brooks accounted for a new freshman record and the second-fastest time (3:47.02) in program history while winning the B final of the 400 IM. While 1-meter diving was Purdue's top-scoring individual event (38 points), the Boilers had the most student-athletes score (four) in the 400 IM.

Bissett, Dias and Tucker (50 and 100 free) each qualified for a pair of championship finals at Big Tens this year.

In addition to the aforementioned new records, numerous student-athletes moved up or joined the program's all-time Top lists at Big Tens with career bests, including: Danny Conway (200 fly and 200 IM), Nate Hopkins (500 and 1650 free), Stephen Seliskar (100 back and 100 fly), Luke Trimmer (500), Bissett (1- and 3-meter diving), Blanco (200 fly), Brooks (200 and 400 IM), Bujoczek (200 free), Cox (platform diving), Flager (100 fly, 50 and 100 free) and Johnston (50 free).

Purdue's relays teams also moved up to first (400 free), second (200 medley), third (400 medley) and fourth place (200 free) in program history. Flager and Tucker were part of all four relays. Friede, Dias and Seliskar each swam on two apiece.
