IOWA CITY, Iowa - Highlighted by new overall school records from Albert Miller in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 freestyle relay team, Purdue men's swimming and diving established six new program records at the Big Ten Championships last weekend.

Miller qualified for the A final of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.54 Friday. He eclipsed Giordan Pogioli's program record (23.60) that had stood since 2006. Miller also became the first Boiler to break an overall individual school benchmark since Sam Wilcher (200 butterfly) at the 2010 Big Ten meet.

In a time trial heat Saturday, Purdue's 200 free relay team of Ben Ziolkowski, Matt Friede, Ben Wachtel and Danny Tucker finished with a time of 1:17.71. That mark eclipsed the Purdue record time of 1:17.91 from 2009 and was just two hundredths of a second shy of an NCAA automatic qualifying time (1:17.69).

Four new program freshman records were also established last week. In the 200 and 400 IM, two first-year Boilers eclipsed the freshman benchmark entering the weekend. In both events, the record changed hands twice. Guillermo Blanco broke the 200 IM mark in the preliminaries, but Lyam Dias finished with an even faster time (1:45.79) while winning the B final that night.

Blanco was also involved in the 400 IM record exchange. He initially broke the Purdue freshman record, which dated back to 1994, at the Big Ten Quad the final weekend of January. Jan Petric's time of 3:49.87 in the prelims Thursday made him the record holder until Blanco finished in 3:48.79 while placing fourth in the A final that night.

Petric did add his name to the record book in the 500 free, his time of 4:23.03 eclipsing Vinny Donnelly's 2010 freshman mark.

Blanco's 100 backstroke time (48.43) as the leadoff leg of the 400 medley relay also represented a new program freshman record. Brian Kiel had set the 100 back and 200 IM freshman benchmarks in 2011.

The Big Ten Championships concluded Saturday evening but the Boilermakers opted to remain in town to participate in a long course time trials Sunday. Chuck Destro (50 free, 23.41) and Brian Kiel (200 back, 2:02.29) successfully recorded long course times that punched their tickets to the U.S. Olympic Trials, set for June 25-July 2 in Omaha.

Selected Purdue swimmers will travel to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend for Ohio State's NCAA Last Chance Meet on Saturday. Divers Alec Back, Jamie Bissett, Nate Cox and Sean Mokhtari have qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, set for the weekend of March 8-10 in Bloomington, Ind. The lists of qualifiers for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be released in early March.
