WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue swimming & diving teams each earned Scholar All-America honors again after collectively excelling in the classroom and raising their team grade-point averages during the 2017 fall semester.

The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America announced its latest batch of Scholar All-America Teams on Monday. The Big Ten led all conferences with 22 (of 23) programs being honored. Across all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA, 688 swimming & diving teams representing 430 institutions were recognized for having 3.0-plus team GPAs during the fall 2017 semester.

The Purdue women were commended for a 3.43 team GPA, up from 3.32 in the fall of 2016 and 3.35 in the spring of 2017. They ranked tied for fifth in the Big Ten, less than a tenth of a point behind conference-leaders Nebraska and Ohio State (3.50 each).

The Purdue men ranked second in the Big Ten with a 3.32 team GPA this past fall. Their GPA made a big jump from a 3.13 in the fall of 2016 and 3.18 in the spring of 2017. Michigan State (3.47) was tops among the Big Ten men's teams.

Individual Scholar All-America honorees are announced by the CSCAA in the summer. The Boilermakers had 18 student-athletes recognized this past summer.

Meanwhile, the Boilermakers are in line to have 45 Academic All-Big Ten honorees when the winter sports accolades are announced in March. The women have 27 qualifiers and the men feature 18. Student-athletes earn Academic All-Big Ten recognition for cumulative GPAs of 3.0 and higher after being enrolled for a full year at their university.

Marat Amaltdinov, Alex Close, Danielle Auckley, Alex Clarke, Grant Lewis, Alex Ford, Rachel Ho, Hanna House and Jake Thomas are the active members of Purdue swim-dive that earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar recognition for 3.7-plus GPAs during the 2017-18 school year.

The Boilermakers closed out their dual meet schedules this past weekend and continue their preparation for next month's Big Ten Championships. The women's meet is Feb. 14 to 17 in Columbus and the men's is the following week (Feb. 21-24) in Minneapolis.
