2014-15: Academic All-Big Ten… Stephens competed primarily in the freestyle sprints… season-best times in the 50 (20.51, 5th), 100 (44.94) and 200 (1:37.04) free all ranked among the top five on the team in 2014-15… posted all three season bests at the Big Ten Championships, where he qualified for the C final of the 200 free with the sixth-fastest time in program history… also swam the third leg on the 400 free relay at Big Tens, helping the quartet post the seventh-fastest time in program history… anchored the 200 medley relay team to victory at the Indiana Intercollegiates and was also part of a 400 free relay winner vs. Western Kentucky… qualified for the D final of the 50 and 100 free at the Minnesota Grand Prix, where he also raced in the 100 back.

2013-14: Academic All-Big Ten... Stephens competed primarily in the freestyle events... posted season-best times in the 50 (20.98), 100 (45.80) and 200 free (1:40.41) at the Big Ten Championships... time in the 50 free ranked fifth fastest on the team in 2013-14... competed in all three freestyle events as well as the 100 (52.92) and 200 backstroke (1:57.07) at the Minnesota Grand Prix... also raced in all three freestyle events in the dual meet victory vs. Notre Dame... competed in the 500 free (4:45.65) and 100 fly (53.81) at the season-opening Indiana Intercollegiates.

2012-13: Stephens competed primarily in the 100 and 200 free... season-best time in the 200 free (1:38.35) from the Big Ten Championships ranked second on the team in 2012-13... qualified for the C final of the 200 free at Big Tens as Purdue's top performer in the event... also posted season-best times in the 50 (20.64) and 100 free (45.25) at Big Tens... won heat 1 of the prelims of the 100 back at the Purdue Invitational... also competed in all three freestyle sprints and helped his 200 free relay team win heat 2 at the Purdue Invite... was among the travel party for the Michigan State-Michigan road trip, recording a time of the 1:41.98 in the 200 free at Michigan State.

Before Purdue: Stephens was a four-year high school All-American for coach Scott Ward at McDonough High School in Owings Mills, Md.... Maryland state champion in the 100 backstroke as a sophomore... four-time Metro All-Conference performer... qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials... accomplished golfer won the JV conference title as a freshman and helped the varsity team win conference titles as a sophomore and junior... placed fourth individually on the links at the conference tournament as a sophomore... golf team captain as a senior.

Personal: Full name is John Emory Stephens... born in Baltimore... parents are Murray and Patricia Stephens, who swam collegiately at Loyola of Maryland and George Washington, respectively... family also includes brothers Reilly and Henry and sister Kerry, who swims collegiately at the NAIA level at the Savannah College of Art and Design...majoring in business management.
