2015-16: Gartland competed primarily in the distance freestyle events... posted season-best time in the 500 free (4:36.13) at the Purdue First Chance Meet... also competed in the 200 back (1:54.39) and 400 IM (4:07.84) at the Purdue Invitational... season-best time in the 1000 free (10:02.88) was in the dual meet victory vs. Miami (Ohio)... won his heat of the 200 IM at the Indiana Intercollegiates with a time of 1:58.37.
2014-15: Gartland competed primarily in the distance freestyle events... posted season-best times in the 200 (1:42.97) and 500 free (4:37.78) at the Michigan First Chance meet... season-best time in the mile (16:09.08) from the Minnesota Grand Prix ranked fifth fastest on the team in 2014-15... finished second in the mile at Michigan with a time of 16:10.14... also competed in the 200 (1:45.36) and 500 free (4:34.69) along with the 200 back (1:55.33) and 400 IM (4:05.61) at the Minnesota Grand Prix... raced in the 200 IM at the Indiana Intercollegiates.
Before Purdue: Swam competitively for his North Coast Aquatics club team in suburban San Diego but did not compete for his high school... Speedo Junior Nationals qualifier in 2013 and 2014... 2013 USA Swimming Junior National Championships qualifier... also competed in the 2012 U-18 Speedo Champions Series and California-Nevada sectional championships... events included mid-distance freestyle, backstroke and individual medley.
