2012-13: Academic All-Big Ten... Petric competed most frequently in the distance freestyle events but raced in 11 different individual events throughout the season as one of the team's most versatile swimmers... owned Purdue season-best times in the 500 (4:23.76) and 1000 free (9:23.20)... season-best marks in the 400 IM (3:49.29, 2nd) and 1650 free (15:23.80, 3rd) also ranked among the top five on the team in 2012-13... posted his season-best times in the 500 and 1650 free and 400 IM at the Big Ten Championships... season-best time in the 1000 free was in the dual meet with Indiana... moved up to fourth place in program history in the 400 IM... among the Purdue all-time Top 10, continues to rank second, fourth and ninth in the distance freestyle events (500, 1000, 1650), respectively... finished second in the B final of the 400 IM at Big Tens to account for seven team points... was among the nine Boilers that traveled to Dallas for the prestigious Classic @ SMU, making the trip for the second year in a row... won the 1000 free in dual meet victories against Michigan State and Florida Atlantic... also won the 500 free in the dual victory at Miami (Ohio)... accounted for 34 team points at the Purdue Invitational by winning the B final of the 400 IM, placing sixth in the A final of the 500 free and seventh in the A final of the 200 fly.
2011-12:CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention... Petric competed in eight different events, racing most frequently in the distance freestyle events and 400 IM... established a new Purdue 500 free freshman record (4:23.03) at the Big Ten Championships... qualified for the A final of the 400 IM at Big Tens, breaking the Purdue freshman record in the prelims before it was eclipsed again that night by Guillermo Blanco... his season-best times in the 500, 1000 (9:14.23) and 1650 (15:23.60) free at the Big Ten Championships all ranked as the best on the team in 2011-12... his 400 IM time (3:49.87) was second and fifth fastest in program history... 500 and 1000 free times rank second and fourth best, respectively, in program history... was among the eight Purdue swimmers that traveled to Dallas for the Classic @ SMU, representing the Boilers in the A final of the 200 fly, 400 IM and 500 free... accounted for 43 team points at the Ohio State Invitational, placing third in the mile, fourth in the A final of the 400 IM and seventh in the A final of the 500 free... won the 500 free in the dual meet win against Miami... finished first in the 1000 free in the dual meet victory versus Northwestern... posted a season-best time in the 200 free (1:40.52) in the C final at the Ohio State Invitational... season-best time in the 200 fly also came at the Ohio State Invitational... swam the 200 back in the dual meet win against Northwestern and the 200 IM at the triple dual with Iowa and Ohio State in Iowa City.
Before Purdue: Three-time Swimmer of the Year award winner for his age group on the club level in Slovenia... won multiple national championships in various distances in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and IM events.
Personal: Full name is Jan Karel Petric... born in Ljubljana, Slovenia... son of Darjan and Karmen Petric... his father was a competitive swimmer and his mother Jan's swim coach... family also includes sister Nika Karlina, who is also a competitive swimmer that also plans to attend college in the United States...majoring in movement and sports science with a career ambition of entering a sports performance or athletic training field.
