Purdue's first freshman swimmer to qualify for the NCAAs in an individual event since 2006... established a new Purdue freshman record time in the 200 breast (1:54.33) and already ranks second in program history... also moved into sixth place in Purdue history with time of 53.96 in the 100 breast... initially broke the 200 breast freshman record at the Minnesota Grand Prix (1:54.46) and then lowered it again in the prelims at Big Tens... finished 10th in the semifinals of the 200 breast at the World University Games in South Korea... accounted for 17 team points at the Big Ten Championships by finishing third in the A final of the 200 breast (with his season best time) and eighth in the B final of the 100 breast... also posted season-best time in the 200 IM (1:52.08) at Big Tens... finished 29th in the 200 breast and 42nd in the 100 breast in the prelims at NCAAs... runner-up in the A final of the 200 breast and also finished sixth in the A final of the 100 breast at the Minnesota Grand Prix... won the 200 breast at the Big Ten Triple Duals as well as dual meets against Michigan State, Western Kentucky... won the 400 IM with a season-best time of 3:59.88 against Michigan State... runner-up to Lyam Dias in both breaststroke events in the dual with Indiana.
Before Purdue: Breaststroke standout attended the Moscow School of Olympic Reserve N3 where he was a medalist for his study habits... grew up in Orenburg, Russia, a community located in the southwest part of the country not far from the Kazakhstan border and due north of the Caspian Sea.
Personal: Full name is Marat Rinatovich Amaltdinov... born in Orenburg, Russia... parents are Rinat Amaltdiov and Julia Amaltdinova... family also includes younger siblings Dina and Amina... majoring in finance.
