2010-11: Friede competed in freestyle sprints, establishing new Purdue freshman records in the 50 (19.98) and 100 free (43.71) at the Big Ten Championships... both of his season-best times ranked fourth in Purdue history... also a strong contributor on relays, swimming on the team's fastest 200 (1:18.99) and 400 free (2:55.34) relay units... those relay teams each posted the second-fastest times in school history... recorded the only sub-20 second time of the year by a Boilermaker in the 50 free... ranked second on the team to captain Ben Wachtel in the 100 and 200 free (1:37.81)... posted season-best times and NCAA provisional qualifying marks in all three freestyle sprints at the Big Ten Championships... finished second in the B final of the 50 free at Big Tens and also scored points for Purdue in the B final of the 100 free... qualified for the C final of the 50 free at the USA Swimming National Championships in August... helped the 400 free and 400 medley relay teams win in the dual meet with Indiana... also finished third in the 50 and 100 free with then season-best times vs. the Hoosiers... swam the anchor leg for the victorious 200 medley relay team at the Big Ten Quad... was among the eight swimmers selected to travel to Dallas for the SMU Classic in January, winning the consolation heat of the 50 free and finishing third in the consolation of the 100... helped the 200 and 400 free relay teams win at the Purdue Invitational, swimming the leadoff leg of the 400 and the anchor of the 200.

Before Purdue: Three-year varsity letter-winner did not participate as a freshman...nine-time All-America Team honoree...won the 50 free at the WIAA DI state meet as a junior and senior, establishing a new state record his senior year...also won the 100 free at state in 2010 after placing second as a junior...anchored state-champion 200 free relay teams in 2008 and 2009, helping establish a new state record in 2009...anchored state-champion 400 free relay team in 2009 and 200 medley relay team in 2010...set school records in the 50 and 100 free and with 200 and 400 relay teams...Badger Conference champion in the 100 and 200 free as a sophomore...Scholastic All-American as a junior...AP Scholar...placed fourth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 free at the NSCA Junior Nationals in Orlando...selected for the NCSA All-Star Team that competed in the Irish Nationals in April 2010.
