2011-12: Kiel competed primarily in the backstroke and IM events... qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the 100 and 200 back... accounted for 16 team points at the Big Ten Championships, posting Purdue season-best times while finishing sixth in the B final of the 100 back (48.34) and sixth in the A final of the 200 back (1:43.63)... both times ranked among the top five in Purdue history... his season-best times in the 200 (1:48.35) and 400 IM (3:54.77), both from the Ohio State Invitational, each ranked third best on the team in 2011-12... swam the 200 IM as well as on the 800 free relay team at the Big Ten Championships... led the team with 11 individual victories... was among the eight Purdue swimmers that traveled to Dallas for the Classic @ SMU, finishing as the runner-up in the A final in the 200 back... accounted for 42 team points by qualifying for the A final in three events at the Ohio State Invitational, taking fourth in the 200 back and 200 IM... swept the backstroke events in the dual meet wins against Northwestern and Notre Dame on back-to-back days... won the 100 breast and 200 back in the dual meet against Miami... captured the 100 back and 200 IM at the Indiana Intercollegiates... won the 200 IM in the triple dual with Iowa and Ohio State in Iowa City... continues to hold the Purdue freshman record (1:43.93) in the 200 back.
2010-11: Kiel competed primarily in the backstroke and IM events, posting new Purdue freshman records in the 100 (48.56) and 200 back (1:43.93) and 200 IM (1:48.23)... the freshman IM record had stood since 1994... recorded the team's fastest times of the year in all three events as well as the 400 IM (3:56.63) despite competing in the 400 IM at only three meets... his 100 (4th) and 200 back (3rd) and 200 IM (5th) times all ranked among the top five in program history and were NCAA provisional qualifying marks... swam the third leg on the 800 free relay team (6:28.45) at the Big Ten Championships that established a new school record... finished fifth overall in the 200 back at the Big Ten Championships... scored again with a seventh place finish in the B final of the 100 back at Big Tens... swam the leadoff backstroke leg on Purdue's top two 400 medley relay teams, both posting NCAA provisional qualifying times... also helped the 400 free relay team win and record a provisional qualifying mark at the Big Ten Quad... individually, won the 100 and 200 back at the Big Ten Quad... was among the eight swimmers selected to travel to Dallas for the SMU Classic in January, finishing third in the championship heet of the 200 back and second in the consolation final of the 100 back... also competed in both the 200 and 400 IM and on relays in Dallas... took third in the 200 IM and fourth in 200 back at the Purdue Invitational.
