Purdue's Brown Places Sixth at World University Games

Matt Brown, a former All-American swimmer at Purdue, placed sixth in the B Final of the 200m individual medley at the World University Games in Sicily today. The Connersville, Ind., native placed third in his heat in a time of 2:08.97. This time put Brown in the B Final, where he finished sixth in a time of 2:08.89. Brown set the Purdue schol record in this event at the 1997 Big Ten Championships en route to earning a conference title. He also earned All-American honors in the 200 IM.

Brown was not the only Boiler swimmer competing in the World University Games. Returning junior Vilmos "Willy" Kovacs, representing Turkey, placed fifth (2:18.18) in the A Final of the 200m breastroke and second (1:04.67) in the B Final of the 100m breastroke.
