Chris Brown, Shaun Guice and Amy Spellmeyer seek All-America status

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Amy Spellmeyer of the women's track and field team and Chris Brown and Shaun Guice of the men's track and field team will represent Purdue this weekend at the NCAA Indoor Track Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. All three earned All-America honors at the 2000 Championships in their respective events and look for similar success.
Brown will be the lone Boilermaker competing for dual event honors as he takes on the shot put and weight throw competitions. The Portland, Conn., native owns the Purdue record in both events. His weight throw mark of 21.93m/71-11.50 currently ranks fifth in the nation, while his shot put toss of 18.96m/62-2.50 is eighth. Brown was chosen as the Purdue athlete of the month following dual event wins at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
After being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and claiming All-America status in the high jump in his debut season at Purdue, Guice is looking to become the top high jumper in the nation. He set the school record leap of 2.25m/7-4.50, which is currently third in the nation. Guice was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week (Feb. 6).
Spellmeyer owns the Big Ten meet record with a vault of 3.95m/12-11.50. She currently owns the school record in the event with a mark of 3.97m/13-0.25, which allowed her to obtain All-America honors in 2000. Spellmeyer currently ranks 15th among U.S. collegians.
