WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men’s golf team looks to show improvement in its second tournament of the year, competing in the Northern Intercollegiate on Sunday and Monday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

The event will tee off Sunday at 9:15 a.m. ET, at the site of the 2017 NCAA Championships, Rich Harvest Farms. The 12 teams and nine individuals will play 36 holes Sunday and finish with 18 holes Monday. The field includes Purdue, Virginia, Iowa State, Michigan, Marquette, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, Eastern Kentucky, Grand Canyon, Louisiana-Monroe, Loyola (Maryland) and Wisconsin.

Of the teams listed above, Purdue, Iowa State and Virginia made last year’s NCAA Championships, held at the same course in May.

After a one-year hiatus from the event, Purdue will compete at the Northern Intercollegiate for the third time in the last four years and fifth time in the last seven years. Combined with NCAA competition at the course in 2014 and last year, Purdue will now have played Rich Harvest Farms in seven straight years.

Purdue finished second at the event in 2015 and fourth in Sept. 2014 and 2012. In addition, Purdue placed third at the NCAA Regionals at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Purdue’s counting squad will include senior Brian Carlson, juniors Jarle Volden and Timmy Hildebrand and freshmen Cole Bradley and Joe Weiler. Sophomore Thomas Lewis and freshman Jason Hong are scheduled to compete as individuals.

• Purdue finished ninth out of 15 teams at the loaded Gopher Invitational two weeks ago. Purdue recorded its best round of the tournament in the final round, shooting a 4-over par 288 in the third round. The Boilermakers totaled a 22-over par 874 (292-294-288) to finish ninth.
• Purdue ended last year ranked 45th nationally and will be the third-highest ranked team in the field (from last year’s final rankings). Virginia was ranked 12th while Iowa State finished 37th.
• Since the start of the Rob Bradley era, Purdue has finished in the top five in 31-of-52 events played. Prior to Bradley’s arrival, Purdue needed seven full years (86 events) to finish in the top five 31 times.
• During the fall campaign under Bradley, Purdue has posted eight top-three finishes in 21 events as a team.

Cole Bradley led Purdue at the Gopher Invitational, finishing tied for 13th in his first career event with a 54-hole total of 3-over par 216 (74-74-68). His final round 68 was the lowest, 18-hole score for a Purdue player in a season-opening event since Adam Schenk shot a 65 in 2011. Bradley’s 68 was also the lowest for a Purdue freshman in a season-opening tournament since at least the 2001-02 season. Bradley led the field in Minnesota with 41 pars.
Brian Carlson recorded his 12th career top-20 finish with a T-18th placing at the Gopher Invitational. Carlson has recorded eight of his 12 top-20 showings during the fall season.
