WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's golf team will get its 2012-13 season under way this weekend when it plays in the Northern Intercollegiate just west of Chicago in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Northern Illinois is set to host the 54-hole event at Rich Harvest Farms, a par-71 course with a 7,218-yard layout. The schedule calls for 36 holes on Saturday, with the remaining 18 to be contested on Sunday.
Junior Adam Schenk will play in the No. 1 position for the Boilermakers in the season opener. The Vincennes, Ind., native played in 11 tournaments last season with a 74.58 stroke average over 33 rounds, posting two top-10 finishes.
Purdue's No. 2 position will be manned by sophomore Justin Cho, who ranked fourth on the team with a 74.73 scoring average in 30 rounds last season. Sophomore Enzo Perez and senior Jakob Ziegler will play No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while freshman Jonathan DiIanni will make his collegiate debut in the No. 5 spot this weekend.
Schenk, Cho and DiIanni were each named Big Ten Players to watch on Tuesday in a release by the league office.
The Boilers will also play two individuals this weekend at Rich Harvest Farms, with redshirt freshman David Cooke and freshman Stuart Macdonald getting the call. Both will be making their collegiate debuts.
Competition at the Northern Intercollegiate will get started with tee times beginning at 8:27 a.m. ET on Saturday. Live scoring will be available at golfstatresults.com.
