WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue men's golfers Brian Carlson, Timmy Hildebrand and Jarle Volden were named to the Big Ten's preseason watch list, the league office announced yesterday.

Carlson was named to the preseason watch list for the second time, while Volden and Hildebrand were selected for the first time.

A senior from Madison, Connecticut, Carlson was an All-Big Ten honoree in 2016 and has appeared in 34 career events playing 101 career rounds. He ranks ninth on the school's career stroke average list (73.78) and his average of 72.97 during the 2015-16 season ranked 13th on the single-season list.

Hildebrand, a junior from Westfield, Indiana, had a sensational summer after a strong sophomore campaign. He finished the 2016-17 season third on the team in stroke average (73.03) and finished T-10th at the Big Ten Championships and 17th at the NCAA Regional Championships. He then won a U.S. Amateur Qualifier and Northern Amateur in the same week and finished in the top 20 at the prestigious Dogwood Amateur.

Volden, a junior from Oslo, Norway, also played his best golf of his career late last year and over the summer. He finished eighth at the NCAA Regional Championships, then advanced to the quarterfinals of the prestigious British Amateur. He also finished high at the German Amateur and helped Norway to the European Team Match Play Championships.

The Boilermakers will open the season at the difficult Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minnesota, on Sept. 10 and 11.
