April 25, 2018

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After winning his first career medalist honor, Purdue junior Jarle Volden was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week the league office announced Wednesday.

Volden earns his first Big Ten Golfer of the Week accolade and it marks the fourth time this year that a Purdue player has won the weekly honor (Brian Carlson – Feb. 14; Jason Hong – Feb. 21; Carlson – March 21).

Volden captured last weekend’s Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State University, tallying a tournament-record score of 9-under par 204, winning by six shots.

His 204 marked the fourth-best, 54-hole score in school history and he has now finished in the top 25 in four of his five events this spring.

Volden ranks second on the team in scoring at 73.30 strokes per round, including a 71.86 average during the spring. He’s posted three top-20 finishes this year and 10 of his 23 rounds have been at even- or under par, including in eight of 14 rounds this spring.

Volden and his teammates will travel to the Baltimore Country Club this weekend for the Big Ten Championships.
