WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 48 Purdue men’s golf team will host its lone home tournament of the 2011-12 season this weekend when it heads an 18-team field for the Boilermaker Invitational at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
The 54-hole event will be contested on Purdue’s Kampen Course, a par-72, 7,465-yard venue that ranks fourth on the Golf Channel’s list of the top 10 college courses. The 18 teams will play 36 holes from an 8:45 a.m. ET shotgun start on Saturday, and will complete the final 18 holes on Sunday with the same starting procedure.
In addition to the host Boilermakers, this weekend’s field includes Akron, Bowling Green, Creighton, Drake, Eastern Michigan, No. 35 Illinois, No. 43 Indiana, No. 25 Iowa, No. 21 Kent State, Loyola (Ill.), Michigan State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, No. 34 TCU, Toledo, No. 30 Wichita State and Wisconsin.
Senior William Sjaichudin, who ranks third on the team with a 74.33 stroke average this season, has been tabbed to play in the No. 1 position for the Boilers this weekend. Freshmen Ben-Marvin Egel and Justin Cho will play Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, with the latter owning a 73.90 season scoring average that ranks second on the team.
There is no admission cost for the tournament, and the public is invited to attend. Live scoring for the Boilermaker Invitational will also be available at golfstatresults.com.
