WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Brian Carlson was named the Big Ten co-Golfer of the Week for his role in leading the Boilermakers to the 2018 Big Ten Match Play Championship last weekend in Florida.

The Boilermakers went 3-0-1 defeating Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota in pool play before tying Michigan State in the finals to capture their first Big Ten team championship of any kind since 1981.

This marks the third weekly honor for Carlson, who won Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors on March 10, 2016, and Sept. 30, 2015.

Playing at the No. 1 position, Carlson posted a 4-0-0 record to lead the Boilermakers to the team title. In Saturday’s action, Carlson defeated Iowa’s Alex Schaake, 2 & 1, and Michigan’s Kyle Mueller, 1-up. Then on Sunday, he defeated Minnesota’s Angus Flanagan, 2 & 1, and Michigan State’s Kaleb Johnson, 3 & 2.

Carlson, a senior from Madison, Connecticut, entered the weekend with just a 3-7-1 record in the Big Ten Match Play Championship, but by winning his four matches, finishes with a 7-7-1 match-play record.

As a team during his four years at Purdue, Carlson helped the Boilermakers to a 10-3-2 match-play record in the Big Ten Match Play Championships.

Carlson leads the team in stroke average (72.47), rounds of par or better (7-of-15) and top-5 (1), top-10 (2) and top-20 (3) finishes. He has had a counting round in 12 consecutive rounds and has recorded a team-best 49 birdies.

For his career, Carlson ranks fifth on the school’s career stroke average list (73.61) and eighth on the career top-10 finishes (10) chart.

Carlson and his teammates will head to Puerto Rico for the 26th annual Puerto Rico Classic, beginning Sunday in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
