WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's golf team begins its spring season this weekend, looking for a Big Ten title in the Big Ten Match Play Championship played at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

The event features two courses at the Hammock Beach Resort as all 14 teams will play the Ocean Course (par-72; 7,201 yards) and the Conservatory Course (par-72; 7,776 yards).

Purdue, the west’s No. 3 seed, will open play against No. 5 west seed Iowa in Friday’s opening round on Friday at 8 a.m. ET, then will face No. 3 east seed Michigan at 1:30 p.m., Friday. In Saturday’s morning round, Purdue will square off against No. 4 west seed Minnesota.

At the conclusion of the three matches, teams will be ranked first through seventh and will play their final match against the team that has the same ranking in the opposite division in Saturday afternoon’s competition.

“It’s great to be back down in Florida to get our spring season underway,” head coach Rob Bradley said. “We had a good training session last weekend and I think the guys are eager to face some solid competition and see what we are made of.”

Purdue has finished second (2014), sixth (2015), third (2016) and fifth (2017) during Bradley’s four years at Purdue. The Boilermakers own a 9-4-1 record during that span.

However, Bradley will use a youthful lineup this week as just four of the seven players traveling have played in the Big Ten Match Play Championships. Timmy Hildebrand owns a 4-0-0 record, while Thomas Lewis is 2-1-0. Jarle Volden owns a 1-1-2 mark and Brian Carlson is 3-7-1.

Freshman Joe Weiler, Cole Bradley and Jason Hong will also travel. Bradley indicated that all seven players will likely see action this weekend.

“I like the fact that we have seven guys fighting to get into the lineup and that everyone will see action this weekend,” Bradley added.

Purdue will return to action next weekend in Puerto Rico when it hosts the competitive Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday through Tuesday, Feb. 18-20.
