OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team concluded play on Sunday at the Olympia Fields Illini Invitational in 14th place with a cumulative score of 892 (+52). The tournament, hosted by Illinois, was played at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill. The course played to a par of 70 and 7,157 yards long. The course hosted the 2003 U.S. Open.
After the first of three rounds, Purdue's score of 303 (+23) placed them in 14th in a field of 15. Indiana led the tournament with a score of 288 (+8).
The Boilermakers second round score of 297 (+17) placed them in a tie for 14th. The Boilermakers finished round two with a cumulative score of 600 (+40). Oklahoma state topped the leader board with a cumulative score of 572 (+12).
On Sunday, the Boilermakers shot 292 (+12) to finish in 14th place for the tournament. Host Illinois used a team score of 279 (-1) on Sunday to win the tournament with a score of 852 (+12), 11 strokes better than second place IU.
Erich Johnston led the Boilermakers with scores of 72, 75, and 69, which placed him in a tie for seventh. Johnston's 69 is his lowest score of the season. Indiana's Alex Martin and Illinois' Zach Barlow won the tournament with a score of 209 (-1).
All five Boilermakers who traveled with the team contributed at least one round to the team total. Besides Johnston, the participating Boilers were Nakarintra Ratanakul, William Sjaichudin, Maximo Kopp, and Tom Oliver.
Purdue's next tournament will be the Mason Rudolph Invitational in Franklin, Tenn. The tournament will tee off Friday, Sept. 26, and conclude on Sunday, Sept. 28.
