  • RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif.- The Purdue men's golf team improved its team score in the second round of the 2008 Callaway Golf Invitational by 10 strokes but remains in 15th place with one round to play.

    The Boilermakers have a two-day total of 622 after recording a 316 in the morning round, followed by a 306 in the afternoon. Wichita State leads the event with a team score of 570 (280-290) while tournament host San Diego is in second with a two-round total of 576 (286-290).

    Purdue junior Michael Randle is tied for 28th after carding a 78, followed by an even-par 72 in the afternoon round. Freshman Maximo Kopp is just one stroke behind with a 76-75 (151) performance that has him tied for 34th.

    Freshman Nakarintra Ratanakul has a two-round total of 156 after firing a 76 in the morning and an 80 in the second round. He is tied for 62nd. Coy Breen is alone in 78th place, recording an 86 and then settling down in the afternoon to score 79. Junior Tom Oliver is tied for 79th with score of 167 (86-81).

    Three golfers are tied for first after two rounds. Ryan Spears and Dustin Garza from Wichita State and Joshua Kelley of St. Mary's (Calif.) share the lead at 140.

    Purdue's David Gersztein is competing as an individual and is tied for 34th with a 151 after firing a 76-75 in the first two rounds.

    The tournament is being held at The Farms Golf Club, a 6,911-yard, par-72 course in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The 54-hole invitational concludes on Tuesday and final results can be found at purduesports.com.
