WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Mike Bobinski's hiring of Jeff Brohm as Purdue head football coach has been applauded from near and far.
Here's a sampling:
Trent Dilfer, ESPN - teammate with Tampa Bay Buccaneers: "He was a fantastic teammate. He had a very analytical mind and saw the game in a unique way and a good way. It was obvious then that he was going to be a good coach. He did as good a job at Western Kentucky as anyone in the country. His teams were exciting and fundamentally sound. Jeff's a guy who does whatever he can do. He gets the best from the best players and most from the least. That's the secret, and he's able to do it. He's a great fit, and I'm excited for him and Purdue."
Brandon Doughty, Miami Dolphins - Western Kentucky starting quarterback 2013 to 2015: "Coach Brohm is like a second father to me, and I talk to him at least once a week. I believe he will bring a creative mind to Purdue's offense and continue to be a hands-on coach with an open-door policy for his players. I truly respect him as a man and wish him the best."
Tom Fornelli, CBS Sports: "Oh man did I love this hire. I mean, it's No. 1 on this list (the best college football coaching hires in the Power Five), so you should probably be able to figure that out on your own, but I just feel the need to say it as many times as possible because that's just how much I love this hire ... Simply put, every time I watched the Western Kentucky offense I just felt bad for the defensive coordinators who had spent the last week trying to figure out what to do with it. It just felt like an impossible task, because if you took one thing away, Brohm just played with something else."
Stewart Mandel, Fox Sports: "Purdue's hire shades of Tiller in '97 coming in with an offense the Big Ten hadn't seen. Brohm's WKU offenses have been scary good."
Pat Forde, Yahoo! Sports: "It's an outstanding hire that should improve Purdue very quickly."
Adam Kramer, Bleacher Report: "That is a wonderful hire. Pressure on other defenses will come quickly."
Pete Fiutak, CollegeFootballNews.com: "If you want the right guy to bring back the Basketball On Grass style of football that former head coach Joe Tiller made so much fun, and Drew Brees and Kyle Orton took to another level, here you go with the hiring of Jeff Brohm from Western Kentucky ... Add a little defense to the mix, and Purdue should be a dangerous factor again."
Adam Rittenberg, ESPN.com: "Great move by Purdue."
Kevin McGuire, NBC: "Purdue could be awfully fun with Jeff Brohm as next coach."
Dave Furst, WRTV, Indianapolis: "That's a BIG hire for Purdue football. Smart choice."
Jude Redfield, WDRB-TV, Louisville, Kentucky: "The state of Indiana will fall in love with coach Brohm."
Dave Biddle, 247 Sports, Columbus, Ohio: "With Brohm taking Purdue gig and inheriting good passing QB in Blough, we could see immediate transformation to Tiller days."
Tom Oats, Wisconsin State Journal, Madison: "Purdue has always been at its best when it has an innovative, offensive-minded coach. Hello, Jeff Brohm."
