WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Senior wide receiver DeAngelo Yancey has accepted an invitation to play in the 2017 East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 21 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Yancey, a second team All-Big Ten selection, posted an outstanding campaign in his final season at Purdue. Recording a career-high 49 receptions for 951 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2016, his yardage and touchdowns totals were second among all Big Ten receivers in the regular season. They were also the most by a Boilermaker since Keith Smith tallied 1,100 yards receiving in 2009 and Taylor Stubblefield hauled in a school-record 16 touchdown passes in 2004.
Yancey, who started all 12 games in 2016, scored seven of his 10 touchdowns on receptions of 31 or more yards, including a career-high 88-yard pass at Nebraska, a 76-yard catch against Wisconsin, a 62-yard score against Penn State and a 60-yard strike at Minnesota.
Yancey wrapped up his four-year collegiate career ranking among the top receivers in Purdue history, finishing seventh in both receiving yards (2,344) and receiving touchdowns (20) and 16th in receptions (141).
Former teammates Danny Anthrop, Anthony Brown and Robert Kugler played in the game last January.
