WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan was finally rewarded for his outstanding senior season by being named a first team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

The Big Ten leader in both sacks (12.5) and tackles for loss (26.0), Kerrigan wrapped up his collegiate career the Football Bowl Subdivision leader in TFLs and second in the nation in sacks in 2010. His TFL numbers were the third-most in a season in Purdue history, while his sacks were sixth all-time.

In his career, Kerrigan accrued the fifth-most TFLs (57.0) and tied for the second-most sacks (33.5) in Purdue history. His 14 career fumbles forced are tied for the most all-time in FBS history.

Kerrigan is the first AFCA All-American at Purdue since punter Travis Dorsch in 2001. Purdue's last first team All-American by any entity was Anthony Spencer from Rivals.com in 2006.
