Noble Jones Awarded NACDA Student-Athlete Scholarship

Football player is one of four recipients of award.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced Wednesday that Purdue football linebacker Noble Jones, was named as one of the four recipients of the 1998 NACDA student-athlete scholarship award.

The four $5,000 grants provided by the NACDA Foundation annually are awarded to one player from the each of the teams participating in the two NACDA-sponsored preseason football games, the Kickoff Classic and the Pigskin Classic. In 1998 Purdue University played the University of Southern California at the Pigskin Classic IX.

The qualifications of the grant require the student-athlete to be in his final year of eligibility and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Noble Jones carried a 3.27/4.0 GPA in his time at Purdue majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Jones was nominated for an Arthur Ashe scholarship, and was a member of the National Society of Black Engineers. Noble Jones plans on attending graduate school at Purdue in the School of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.
