WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ultimate Purdue Fan will be selected by the ultimate Boilermaker, Leroy Keyes, during a live television newscast Friday evening originating from University Spirit in Chauncey Hill Mall.

Keyes, who was an All-American football player in the late 1960's and voted as Purdue's Greatest Player for the first century of Boilermaker football, will be on hand to help select the winning names at 6:15 p.m. in the middle of WLFI-TV's 6 p.m. newscast.

Keyes, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1990, will be available at Friday's event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to sign autographs. The store also will feature several sale items.

University Spirit, J-America Sportswear, Balfour, WLFI-TV, Gold & Black Illustrated and the 12th Boiler Program have partnered to create a contest that launched Aug. 24 on the first day of classes and ends with Friday's drawing, about 18 hours before Purdue's home game against Illinois.

The Grand Prize will feature two game tickets, overnight accommodations and a merchandise game pack for the Purdue football matchup at Michigan on Nov. 7. The Grand Prize also includes a $1,000 gift card from University Spirit, a 14-karat gold class ring from Balfour, and a 12-month online subscription and print magazine from Gold & Black.

Second-place through fifth-place prize packages will be as follows:

2nd place - Merchandise game pack, $500 gift card, 10-karat gold class ring and 12-month subscription
3rd place - Merchandise game pack, $250 gift card, class ring and 9-month subscription
4th place - Merchandise game pack, $100 gift card, class ring and 6-month subscription
5th place - Merchandise game pack, $50 gift card, class ring and 6-month subscription.

WLFI-TV and Gold & Black Illustrated have publicized the contest throughout the fall.

Fans were encouraged to enter the contest at one of the University Spirit stores (Chauncey Hill Mall or Purdue West in West Lafayette or Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette) prior to a pre-drawing on Monday that determined the 10 finalists.

"The Purdue Ultimate Fan Contest is a way for J. America Sportswear to give back to Purdue University community," says Jim McCollough, national sales director for J. America, which provides the merchandise for the game packs. "We value the partnership we have built with University Spirit and Purdue and appreciate the support that both have given to our brand.
