WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Due to 24-hour construction on I-94 in Jackson, Mich., Purdue fans planning on driving to the Purdue-Michigan game Saturday should explore an alternate eastbound route to Ann Arbor.
The construction has reduced I-94 to one lane in each direction at the two US-127 interchanges. Also, the ramp from US-127 to eastbound I-94, and the ramp from northbound US-127/West Avenue to westbound I-94 are closed.
The interstate is not expected to return to two-lane traffic until mid-November.
One way for eastbound drivers to avoid I-94 is to take the I-80/90 toll road across to US-23. US-23 northbound will lead to Ann Arbor.
For drivers wishing to travel on I-94, the Michigan Department of Transportation recommends the following eastbound detour:
Exit at Dearing Rd. (#133); turn right (going south).
Go to E. Michigan Ave. (also I-94 business loop); turn left (going east).
Follow E. Michigan Ave. through Jackson until you reach Sargent Rd.; turn left (going north).
Re-enter I-94 going east.
The detour for drivers returning west after the game follows:
Exit at Sargent Rd. (#145); turn left (going south).
Go to Ann Arbor Rd. (also I-94 business loop); turn right (going west).
Follow Ann Arbor Rd. through Jackson until you reach S. Dearing Rd.; turn right (going north).
Re-enter I-94 going west.
