WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue football team is nearing the end of its 2012 preseason camp and head coach Danny Hope continues to be pleased. The Old Gold and Black took advantage of perfect weather on Saturday, turning in an excellent practice and a variety of situational scrimmages.
Hope spoke at length about the progress of his defensive line and wide receivers with the media on Saturday. Highlighting the defensive line were defensive tackles Kawann Short and Bruce Gaston, who have put themselves in outstanding position to have impressive seasons. Hope cited their greatly improved conditioning as a main reason for their improvement, specifically pointing out Gaston's development from last year.
The progress of freshmen wide receivers Danny Anthrop, B.J. Knauf and Cameron Posey highlighted Hope's insight on the offensive side, expecting them to contribute immediately to the Boilermakers. Hope spoke about the increased physicality of the group and their need to be a presence on the outside from a blocking standpoint.
