Let’s Play Football in Indianapolis

Position Coach: Tony Levine

Returning Starters: J.D. Dellinger (Jr.-K), Ben Makowski (Jr.-LS), Joe Schopper (Jr.-P)

Others: Brian Bravo (Jr.-K), Zac Collins (Fr.-K), Spencer Evans (Jr.-K), Jake Herr (So.-P), Myles Homan (So.-K), Ryan Sadkowski (Jr.-LS)

At A Glance: Dellinger is coming off freshman season that saw him connect on 10 of 14 field goal opportunities and 35 of 36 PAT tries. Schopper punted 56 times for 2,277 yards, an average of 40.7 yards per kick. Makowski has been a mainstay at long snapper for all kicks for the past two seasons. Evans, a transfer from Baylor, has a big leg that should be a big boost on kickoffs.

Fun Fact: Dellinger made eight of nine of his final field goal attempts, including five straight, to end the year. Schopper placed 24 of his 56 punts inside the opposition’s 20-yard line (42.9 percent).

Levine Says: "I wanted to add some depth to our kicking and try to find someone who can kick the ball across the goal line. I identified Spencer Evans as a guy who could do that and we found a way to get him here. It came down to the wire, but he certainly provides us some depth. He'll have a chance to kick off, as well as compete with J.D. Dellinger and the group to be a field goal kicker. We have some good depth there."

Evans Says:
"The staff liked how much power I bring to the table and the experience I have with two years of NCAA football under my belt. They told me they want to be able to get the ball in the end zone, but the coaches want me to compete on everything and that was attractive about Purdue. I want to be able to compete for field goal duty as well."

Practice Notes: The Boilermakers had a lighter practice Thursday opting for no helmets or shoulder pads. The team was indoors due to rain in the area and prepared for game situations in more of a walkthrough setting. Purdue will have a closed scrimmage Saturday, its final planned scrimmage before the season opener Sept. 2 against Louisville in Indianapolis.
